What is a curbside compost pickup service?
We make composting simple, clean, and stress-free. Depending on your plan, we’ll either collect your food scraps right from your doorstep or provide convenient drop-off options.
Composting is one of the easiest ways to make a big environmental impact. It helps rebuild healthy soil, capture carbon before it is emitted into the atmosphere (as in a landfill), and support local ecosystems—all from your kitchen scraps!

I’m new to composting—will this be difficult?
Not at all! We provide you with a clear, beginner-friendly guide. It may take a week or two to get into the rhythm, but we’re here for you anytime via call, text, or email. You’ve got this!
Are there any contracts or hidden fees?
None. No upfront costs, no hidden fees, no subscriptions, cancel anytime. We believe you will fall in love with our purpose and your positive environmental impact so we make it easy to get started! In the state of Texas we do have to charge sales tax for waste management services, there is no avoiding that! :)
Will this take more time out of my day?
Nope—it’s actually easier than DIY composting! Just fill your bin, set it out, and go about your day. No backyard piles, turning, or balancing materials required.
Can I track my environmental impact?
Yes! We provide updated Environmental Impact reports after each pickup that will be located in your customer portal. See an example here.
What am I allowed to compost?

Do you service apartments, condos, or townhomes?
Yes! We proudly serve all types of residential buildings, including multi-unit properties.
Do I need to worry about the right balance of materials in the bin?
No balancing act required! Just place your approved compostables in the bin. We take care of the rest—no need to manage greens vs. browns like in backyard systems.
Will the bin smell or attract bugs?
Not likely. If the airtight lid is closed properly and the bin is stored in a pantry or garage, odors and pests are minimal if not nonexistent. But if you ever have an issue, we’re just a message away and happy to help fix it.
What if I need more than one bin?
Just let us know and we would be happy to supply you with an additional bin for only $5 more per month.
Can I put pet waste or animal manure in the bin?
No, we don’t accept manure, pet waste, or animal bedding—even from herbivores. And for clarity: no compostable diapers or anything else that’s come from or touched a behind.
Do you offer free composting services?
While we don’t offer a free plan, we do offer ways to save:

What’s the subscription length?
All residential plans are month-to-month. If you decide to cancel, just let us know—we’ll collect your bin on your next pickup day and close your account.
What happens to my food waste? Where does it go and what do you do with it?
Curbside Compost is partnered with local commercial compost facilities that have the proper equipment, the right personnel and expertise required to convert 100% of your food waste into valuable, nutrient-rich compost. All of your waste is recycled right back into the local Austin ecosystem. After a period of time with us you can request some back for use in your home garden. It’s a win-win!!!
